Marathon’s mid-Season 2 Update and experimental PvE mode are live now!

Vault Breaker is a roguelite experimental PvE mode within the Cryo Archive end game zone

A fresh batch of balance and progression changes also accompanies the update


Marathon’s Mid-Season 2 Update is now live, bringing the game’s first-ever experimental PvE mode, Vault Breaker, alongside balance and progression updates. Watch the Mid-Season 2 overview video for a summary of key changes.

The Vault Breaker PvE mode sends Runners into the UESC Marathon’s Cryo Archive on a roguelite hunt for loot and deeper access to the deck, and is playable straight away solo, as a duo, or with a full trio regardless of Runner Level. Learn more about Vault Breaker here.

Notable additions and updates coming in the Mid-Season 2 Update include:

  • Vault Breaker: Marathon’s first experimental PvE mode, a roguelite experience set inside Cryo Archive where Runners take on progressively tougher Vaults across multiple runs. Available July 21 through August 4.
    • Unique Codex challenges and rewards: New cosmetics, including emblems, a profile background, a weapon style, and a weapon charm
  • Sandbox & balance updates: WSTR Combat Shotgun buffs, balance changes to the D54 Battle Pistol and Misriah 2442 shotgun, a new equipment infil limit to curb grenade and Bubble Shield spam, and updated Implant iconography.

Season 2 of Marathon, available to all players, continues with the Night Marsh zone, the new Sentinel Runner shell, new weapons, a new system to customize Runner shell stats, faster faction progression, several quality-of-life updates based on player feedback, and more.
